Description

The company led by Marion Coutris and Serge Noyelle came to Marseille in 2007 with a removable wooden tent, after the creation and management of an approved amenity in the Parisian region for 23 years, the Théâtre de Châtillon, known for its innovation in terms of contemporary creation, dance and theatre, and initiator of one of the earliest Street Art Festivals in the Paris area.

The Théâtre des Calanques – formerly Théâtre Nono – thus creates its artistic projects in Marseille, devises ever more inventive ways to draw spectators, conquers a very wide public by being friendly and welcoming, fosters new forms of writing, and takes part in original joint productions with international partners in China, Russia, the Netherlands, Lithuania or Bulgaria.

The creative work of the company relies on the principle of exchange and a permanent writing laboratory led by several artistes working in complementary fields of inquiry.

Based on poetic reflection, physical experience of space and stated surrealism, the theatre juxtaposes levels of expression: scenography, musical composition, text and dramaturgy all make up the fabric of theatrical research that is ever working towards the development of new configurations to which the spectators are invited and aesthetic worlds marked by pictorial radicality.

From land art to opera, choreography to circus art, street theatre to more intimist experiences, the company tirelessly looks for new aesthetic passages through which the spectators travel, discover and engage in open reflection.

On the international level, the company expresses its singularity with a significant profile in leading festivals and theatres: Beijing, Shanghai, Canton, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Perm, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Brussels, Valladolid, the Netherlands and Ireland among others.
